How To Plan A Wedding Day Timeline

Hey Beautiful Brides and Groovy Grooms!  I have been missing in the blog world while busy during wedding season, but I wanted to get back to giving YOU some advice!  Today we're going to be talking about planning your wedding day timeline.  It is such an important step to making sure that your wedding day runs smoothly!  It's rare that people notice if you stick to your timeline, but it is often obvious to everyone, including guests, when things are not running smoothly!  So, here are my pointers for helping to ensure a flawless day.

The first thing you need to decide is when the ceremony starts.  This is going to be the base point for the day and you can work out from there when everything else needs to start.   The next decision to make is, are you having a first look?  A lot of couples choose to do a first look away from the crowds before the wedding starts.  It's a great chance to see each other and have an intimate moment before the hustle and bustle begins.  It also allows you to do photos before the ceremony instead of after.  When planning photos, make sure you talk with your photographer about how much time you will need.  I typically use 5-7 minutes per group photo, so if you want 10 groups I would say plan about an hour, if you want 20 different groups, plan 2 hours.  Make sure, when scheduling your day to add travel time.  I like to give myself double what the time usually is.  I would rather have time to relax at a location than frantically try to get through photos, hair, or makeup.

Photographers usually like to arrive about an hour before the bride is finished getting ready.  This will allow the photographer to get some awesome shots of the final touches of getting ready and eliminates the awkwardness of having a photographer in your face for hours before you get started.  :)

A few little reminders

1. Don't forget to EAT!  Make sure you get a good breakfast and plan a time for lunch!

2. Plan extra time for everything

3. Time your hair and make up test run (if you have one).

4. Use the vendors you have hired.  Ask questions about your timeline before you plan it.  Not sure how much time the photographer will need? ASK!  Not sure the order of events during the reception or the timing of those? Ask your DJ.  Your vendors are there to make your day easier and less stressful and hopefully flawless.  Use them to help plan it!

Because I love my Beautiful Brides and Groovy Grooms so much, I'm added a FREE downloadable wedding day timeline!

A Bit About Me

As most of my clients know, I am NOT a business person.  I'm a photographer, an artist, a lover of life, a mom, a Christian, a vegan...but not a business person.  So part of my business goals for the year is to figure out this whole business thing.  Part of that is figuring out the blog thing, so I'm kind of hitting refresh on the blog and getting a little personal.

When people ask me what I do, my first response is almost always, "I'm a mom."  I guess I'll start there. I am a mom.  I have two amazingly adorable kiddos who have stolen my heart.  My oldest is 9 1/2 (almost 10) and my baby turned 5 in January.  These two keep me on my toes.  I homeschool the older one (who is in 4th grade) and will start officially homeschooling my youngest in the fall.  I love the freedom it gives us and the time I get to spend with them as we learn and grow together. For the record I realize how cheesy that sounds, but it's the truth, so I'll deal with the cheesiness. :)

I am a Christian.  I love Jesus.  I love what he did for me and I'm not ashamed to share that.  With that said, I love people as well.  I don't judge or condemn people (friends, clients, strangers, or anyone for that matter).  I know I am broken and never pretend not to be.  I also know my place isn't to judge people, but to love them, so I do that to the best of my ability.

I am a vegan.  Vegans get vegans, but the rest of the world thinks we're a bit strange (and that's totally okay with me...I embrace my strangeness).  I won't preach to you about animal rights, nor will I condemn your food choices at your wedding or any other time!  It's just part of who I am and I like that part of me.

I am a wife.  I am married to an amazing man.  He is my rock, my soulmate and my best friend.  We have fought some tough battles together and have endured them all...together.  I understand love in large part because of him.  My parents love me fiercely, but they're supposed to.  My Mike CHOSE me.  He CHOOSES me daily.  We choose each other daily.  We choose to love and honor each other every day.  We laugh together, cry together and sometimes we go crazy together, but we always choose to love each other!

I am a photographer.  I love capturing emotions.  I love freezing time so people can look back and remember.  Weddings and engagement sessions are my favorite things to photograph.  There's something about a love story that gets me every time.  I am reminded every time I photograph a wedding what it means to love.  I am reminded to hold my man close and cherish him always.  And I pray that the photos I take of such memorable moments will always remind my clients to love each other and cherish each other always.

I live a wonderfully blessed life.  I love my family, my God, and my job.

Sabrina & John

I had so much fun with this couple.  They're fun and sweet and have an endearing quality about them. Thank you both for trusting me with your photos.  Smale Park on a chilly winter evening was the perfect backdrop for this beautiful couple.
